Advocacy and Support Groups

National Family Caregivers Association

The National Family of Caregivers Association (NFCA) supports, empowers, educates and speaks up for more than 50 million Americans who care for a chronically ill, aged or disabled loved one. NFCA reaches across the  boundaries of different diagnoses, relationships and life stages to address the common needs and concerns of all family caregivers.

National Alliance for Caregiving

The National Alliance for Caregiving is dedicated to the support to family caregivers and the professionals who help them and to increasing public awareness of issues facing family caregivers.

The Well Spouse Association

Well Spouse is a national, not for profit membership organization that gives support to wives, husbands and partners of the chronically ill and/or disabled.

Family Caregiver Alliance

Founded in 1977, Family Caregiver Alliance (FCA) was the first community-based nonprofit organization in the country to address the needs of families and friends providing long-term care at home. FCA now offers programs at national, state and local levels to support and sustain caregivers.

National Senior Citizens Law Center

The National Senior Citizens Law Center advocates nationwide to promote the independence and well-being of low-income elderly individuals and persons with disabilities.

American Physical Therapy Association

The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) is a national professional organization representing more than 63,000 members. Its goal is to foster advancements in physical therapy practice, research, and education.

Department of Aging and Adult Services

IHSS is the largest publicly funded home care program in the United States. The In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Program provides assistance to those eligible aged, blind and disabled individuals who are unable to remain safely in their own homes without this assistance. IHSS is an alternative to out-of-home-care. Contact the Department of Aging and Adult Services at (800) 510-2020.

Easter Seals

This national non-profit provides a variety of services nationwide for children and adults living with disabilities and special needs. Services and resources include medical rehabilitation, employment training, adult day care, in home care, transportation solutions for care givers and more.

Lifeline

Lifeline enables people to live with greater confidence, peace of mind and dignity in their own homes. Lifeline's personal response service is one of the most trusted choice of hospitals, and professional caregivers.

National Private Duty Association (317) 663-3637

This professional association provides leadership, representation and education to the non-medical private duty home care industry. Consumers can call the Association or visit its website to locate Association home care providers throughout the U.S. Helpful consumer tips are provided at its website.

Supplemental Security Income Assistance Program

The Supplemental Security Income Assistance Program (SSIAP) provides physically and mentally disabled General Relief (GR) participants with assistance through the initial phases of the SSI application process. The program focuses on obtaining an early SSI approval for GR participants who appear to meet SSI eligibility criteria. GR participants who are potentially SSI eligible are identified by medical and mental health professionals and referred for SSI advocacy. SSI Advocates are available on-site in all GR district offices and CalWORKs districts with GR cases.

AeroCare provides Air Ambulance services and is a nationally recognized throughout the world. AeroCare Air Ambulance Service offers 24 hour emergency and non-emergency ambulance services throughout the world.

Air Ambulance Service

This nationally accredited aero-medical transportation company has global capabilities. Flights can be scheduled to handle all types of patients from acute emergency traumas to non-emergency international travel. Customer advisors will assist with insurance coverage questions and provide a cost quote once all specific care requirements are reviewed. American Public Transportation Association

APTA works to strengthen and improve public transportation. The APTA serves and leads its diverse membership through advocacy, innovation and information sharing. APTA and its members and staff work to ensure that public transportation is available and accessible for all Americans in communities across the country.

 

Angel Flight

A non-profit charitable air medical transportation organization serving needy people and their families.  Provides access to specialized medical evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation.

This national nonprofit provides a variety of services nationwide for children and adults living with disabilities and special needs. Transportation solutions for care givers is offered in the form of material and resources to address this critical issue.

Easter Seals Project ACTION

Congress originally commissioned Easter Seals Project ACTION in 1988 as a research and demonstration project to improve access to public transportation for people with disabilities. With the passage of the ADA two years later, our goals expanded to help transportation operators implement the law's transportation provisions.  Funded through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Transportation Administration, Easter Seals Project ACTION promotes cooperation between the transportation industry and the disability community to increase mobility for people with disabilities under the ADA and beyond.  Information and resources are available Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (EST) at (800) 659-6428 (voice). The Easter Seals Project ACTION staff can answer questions about ADA rights and responsibilities, direct callers to additional resources, and help members of the disability and transportation communities address diverse accessibility issues.

The NATIONAL PATIENT TRAVEL HELPLINE provides information about all forms of charitable, long-distance medical air transportation and provides referrals to all appropriate sources of help available in the national charitable medical air transportation network.

United We Ride

United We Ride is an interagency Federal national initiative that supports States and their localities in developing coordinated human service delivery systems. In addition to State coordination grants, United We Ride provides State and local agencies a transportation-coordination and planning self-assessment tool, help along the way, technical assistance, and other resources to help their communities succeed.

This independent not-for-profit organization sets standards for rehabilitation counselors through internationally recognized certification programs.
