The National Network for Child Care

NNCC unites the expertise of many of the nation's leading universities through the outreach system of Cooperative Extension. Their goal is to share knowledge about children and childcare from the vast resources of the land grant universities with parents, professionals, practitioners, and the general public.
 
Boys & Girls Clubs of Americ, (404) 487-5700

Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America offer several programs, including FITNESS AUTHORITY®, a new small-group program sponsored by The Sports Authority, Inc., which promotes fitness in all youth. FITNESS AUTHORITY provides a fun-filled, motivating fitness experience for members.

This child advocacy organization supports programs and policies that improve the lives of all American children. Its Web site offers an office locator and information about after-school reading, college scholarship and lobbying programs.

Easter Seals, (800) 221-6827

This national nonprofit provides a variety of services nationwide for children and adults living with disabilities and special needs. Services and resources include medical rehabilitation, employment training, adult day care, in-home care, transportation solutions for care givers and more.

National Center for Learning Disabilities, (888) 575-7373

This is a national not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the success and dignity of individuals affected by learning disabilities. The Center links people with resources, promotes research, and advocates for their educational rights.

National Dissemination Center for Children, (800) 695-0285

This is a national not-for-profit organization that provides information to the nation on disabilities in children. This center provides links to programs, services, educational rights, respond to questions, and much more.

March of Dimes (914) 997-4488

Founded by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1938, this charity supported the development of polio vaccines. Since 1958, it has supported the prevention of premature births, birth defects and infant mortality. Its website provides information regarding prenatal care, giving birth, baby care and more.

Health Services

Action for Healthy Kids, (800) 416-5136

Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) is a nationwide initiative dedicated to improving the health and educational performance of children through better nutrition and physical activity in schools. An outgrowth of the 2002 Healthy Schools Summit, AFHK is composed of 51 state teams and a national coordinating and resource group.

American Heart Association, (800) 242-8721

The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is to reduce disability and death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Their web site contains information on children and physical activity.

Excellent guide to health programs for children and adults in low-income families. Site includes detailed descriptions of the programs and an eligibility calculator. 

Insure Kids Now, (877) 543-7669

Information on how to get health insurance for children through the Children's Health Insurance Program, whose website offers state-specific information on who is eligible and how to enroll. Insure Kids Now is a program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

Kids Health

KidsHealth is one of the largest sites on the Web providing doctor-approved health information about children from before birth through adolescence. Created by The Nemours Foundation's Center for Children's Health Media, KidsHealth provides families with accurate, up-to-date, and jargon-free health information they can use. KidsHealth has separate areas for kids, teens, and parents - each with its own design, age-appropriate content, and tone. There are literally thousands of in-depth features, articles, animations, games, and resources - all original and all developed by experts in the health of children and teens.

The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (PCPFS) serves as a catalyst to promote, encourage and motivate Americans of all ages to become physically active and participate in sports. Assisted by elements of the U.S. Public Health Service, the PCPFS advises the President and the Secretary of Health and Human Services on how to encourage more Americans to be physically fit and active.
